Your Best Skin

One question I get asked about a LOT as a woman in my 50s is “What do you use on your skin?”

Like most things in life, the answer is multifaceted so I thought I’d break it down for you…

I should start off by saying that genetics plays a key role…

Our “Genetic Expression” – both good and bad – is “turned on” and nurtured by the things we take in and what we consistently do.

My Mom is nearing 80 and her doctor just told her she has the health and looks of someone who’s 60 – so, THANK YOU, MOM! ☺️

Skin that ages well and glows also requires nurturing, so here I’m going to share exactly how I nurture my mom’s great skin genes:

Nutrition – You are what you eat…And that’s true for your skin too. I eat mostly real, whole foods in a balance that works for my physical body, preferences and lifestyle. This includes a variety of high quality fats and animal products and lots of plants too (preferably in-season).

I drink water and herbal tea throughout the day (but nothing crazy). I also drink coffee. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m also very minimal with sugar and starches – and when I do indulge, it’s with the highest quality “worth it” real food sources I can access. I also find myself moderating and minimizing alcohol more and more as I age.

Sleep – Sleep is a very high priority for me. Without adequate sleep, health (and skin) suffers.

Movement – I move everyday…usually walking without fail, but I also include things like stretching, resistance training and lymph moving (bouncing on a rebounder, dancing around the house and good sex 😉).

Gua Sha – I use a facial oil with a flat contoured stone (called Gua Sha) to move lymph and to help smooth and depuff (linked). I also do some facial yoga and massage techniques that I’ve learned along the way.

Supplements – I take a specific highly absorbable liquid collagen every day – as well as a multi- type supplement that supports good skin. I’ve noticed significant improvement in my skin, hair and nails since adding this form of collagen. Here’s the link for all my skin products here.

Topical Products – My favorite topical products contain rose or rose hips – one, because they’re naturally moisturizing and high in Vitamin C but also because, energetically, rose brings in higher frequencies and more feminine energy and flow to our more rigid, pressurized, masculine dominated world energies.

The Heritage Rosewater Facial Spray is something that I really enjoy using morning and night – and often in-between for a refreshing spritz of self care. I’ve also linked some of my tried and true favorite serums and moisturizers if you’re looking to try something new with “clean” ingredients.

(It may shock you to know that I rarely wear sunscreen unless I’m laying on the beach or in peak sun for hours. I prefer a hat and shade. I also rarely wash or scrub my face.😬 I simply use water, facial oil and/or a gentle milky cleanser with a wash cloth.)

Regulation & Energetic Balance – This is really really key. If you’re a worrier – overthinking and overwhelmed with life – dousing yourself in stress hormones (or suppressing emotions and keeping those energies stored in your tissues), this WILL REVEAL ITSELF in your face and body.

Have you ever been shocked to see how someone rapidly ages after going through a harrowing experience (or even with just being stuck in life)?

This phenomenon or pattern is very much dominant on the “Masculine” or mental side of consciousness – choking the feminine out. The result is a reflection of someone who is not allowing their life force or essence to flow.

If you want to age well and be all you can be, like I said before, you need to balance those mental dominant energies with more of your feminine-heart energies. The opposite is true if you’re more feminine dominant. Both aspects need to work together, with the heart leading the mind and body.

In addition to compassionate emotional processing, sexual expression and rose🌹, more ways you can embody more of your feminine include being in nature, practicing flowing movement like dance, tapping into your creativity and gifts, stillness – simply being more deeply connected with yourself, your body and those you love.

I also find journaling and guided meditation helps me to clear out the mental chit-chat and protective walls so that my feminine/heart energies feel safe, seen and welcome in my body – so they can f l o w through me with more ease and integration. Like a dance. 💃🏻🕺🏻

Life can be stressful, but you’re responsible for the life you’re continuing to create. Regulating your nervous system through breath, embodiment practices, mindset and holding healthy boundaries by “not taking things on” – meaning NOT saying yes to guilt, obligation and things that drain you – is probably your most important work.

The health of your skin is a direct reflection of your consciousness.

I find in midlife, similar to alcohol, crappy sleep and junky food, our tolerance for “stress”, false identities, excess self protection and related BS also reduces drastically. If you feel stuck in that loop, it may be time to reflect or to work with someone to clear out what needs to go so that you’re living your best possible life in your best possible skin.

So tell me what resonates with you with my skincare lifestyle and routine. Does this inner AND outer approach make sense to you? What would you focus on, add or take away? Please share in the comments or schedule a Free Discovery Call to chat directly. 🥰

xo,

Ev
