OK so I’m in my forties – I guess you could call it my late forties. So imagine my surprise last year when I started to miss periods.
I was like – huh?!
What’s wrong with me?
This can’t be menopause?
I’m too young for this.
Weird as it sounds, I kinda looked forward to my period in some strange way (it’s like a release), but I guess it wasn’t all that terrible to not have to worry about a tampon. That was UNTIL, I started getting hot flashes and night sweats and started to gain weight.
This was unbearable – I didn’t feel like myself. I would be standing there having a normal conversation, when all of a sudden this flushing wave of heat would come over me, completely distract me and then WOOSH – it was gone.
At first it was just one or a few hot flashes throughout the day. Then it became like 20 an hour! Never mind what was happening in bed – cuz it wasn’t sleep (or sex). I would toss and turn with sweat everywhere – roasting, dripping – and then I would be clammy shivering cold. It was like my entire bodily thermostat was off!
There was some comfort in knowing that I wasn’t alone. A few of my friends had similar experiences – even worse than me. And my Mom reminded me that she went through menopause early too, but I wasn’t convinced this was my time (yet).
So…as I tend to do with everything, I researched and researched and with the help of a knowledgable practitioner and some lifestyle changes, I learned how to rebalance my hormones so that my peri-menopause went into a bit of a remission. No more hot flashes or night sweats and I finally feel like myself again. Periods are still sparse and random and weight is still normalizing, but I do feel great and hot flash/night sweat free.
Don’t get me wrong, I know menopause is coming and I’m definitely peri-menopausal, but I also know it doesn’t have to be a completely miserable and disruptive experience. That’s why I want to share what I know with you so that you can feel and be your best during hormonal changes too.
I’ve put together a FREE Webinar to walk you through the 5 foundations of hormone balance using simple nutrition and lifestyle strategies that you can start applying right away. Even if you’re past menopause or not even close, you can learn a lot from this information.
And, for people who attend the Merry Peri-Menopause Webinar and stay the full hour, I have a special surprise bonus for you too. Let’s just call it a little early holiday gift from me to you. See you there!
