I Am..Able to Do Pull Ups

I updated my vision board this week. I have a section for health and performance goals.

noexcuses

A lingering goal on my board has been represented by an image of a woman doing a pull-up. Even though I’ve invested in personal training this year to help me achieve that goal, and have been working on some of the prescribed exercises to get stronger and get the neuromuscular patterns firing, the pull up eludes me.

But I realized my mental/emotional investment and desire in this goal had been low. It didn’t have a fire  fueling it. It’s been a ‘nice to have’ – not a ‘must have’.

Usually I’ll approach the bar with an assist band half heartedly – do the reps – and walk away – kinda like I lamely checked off something off my todo list.

This is where i see investing in a coach or having an equally fueled buddy on your ‘goal journey’ becomes very valuable. They help fuel your desire and encourage your progress – dismiss the excuses – because the brain will talk you out of it. And you’ll make excuses – it’ll give you reasons – why such and such won’t work. So cunning and convincing this part of the brain is.

‘Get thee behind me!’ we need to say, like Jesus told the snake .

What I’ve been learning about neuroscience and the law of attraction, the law of gestation and the law of action is that the goal you have must be a BURNING desire in order to pull you forward – or up – in this case 😉.

So I’m experimenting with this now. Turning my pull up ‘goal’ and my other visions into burning desires. I’m stepping up my time and intensity dedicated to this and recruiting a pull up buddy who knows I can do it – to push me and cheer me on.

What’s your burning desire for your life? Have you noticed excuses dousing the flame? Do you have support that believes you can do it? Are you willing to do what it takes?
