I hear this a LOT: “I want to lose weight. Nothing’s working. What am I doing wrong?” (Believe me, I’ve said this a LOT too.)
When you dig a little deeper, into the “why’s” and “what’s”: Why do you want to lose weight? What have you done to try to lose weight? That’s where I usually find a disconnect…
The desire to lose weight usually comes from a place of non-acceptance and resistance. “I want things to be different than they are. I don’t accept my body as it is.”
There’s usually some level of self-hatred mixed in there too.
This pattern of thinking brings with it an energy. These subtle energetic messages alert our cells and systems that something’s not right.
We are biologically wired then – when something’s not right or doesn’t feel safe – to conserve resources – to literally store fat. Not everyone, but many of us respond this way. This response is innate. It’s there to protect us.
But the body systems can’t distinguish between real stress and perceived stress. You see, our thoughts and beliefs bring the exact thing we DON’T want on a physiological level.
When we don’t have awareness of this mechanism, what do most of us tend to do when we think “we want to lose weight“?
We eat less and exercise more which creates more of this scarcity energy in the body. Then we wonder why nothing works…or why what used to work doesn’t work anymore.
When we were young, this didn’t backfire as much as it does now when we’re older. Some of us might be able to get away with this restrictive approach.
But wouldn’t it be great to approach this whole thing differently? With love, not hate? With abundance, not scarcity? With freedom, not restriction? With true nourishment of thought, food and movement?
It’s SOOO possible. I encourage you to start cultivating awareness. Start with your thoughts. Your why’s. And start with loving yourself first.
Then you can work on all the nuts and bolts with food and movement.
In love and health,
Ev
