Do your mental thoughts drive your life?
Is your life centered around lots of activity?
Maybe both…
Do you find yourself going through each day in the “over-thinking” place – taking in more and more external information…
…and then the “over-doing” place — whether it be working, learning, socializing, entertainment, kids, grandkids, aging parents, producing, cooking, shopping, cleaning, picking up, putting away, eating, running, exercise, TV, doom-scrolling, busy, busy, busy …
…This ‘state of doing’ can seem wonderful at times (hello dopamine! ) – and sometimes it can feel rote – like you’re on autopilot – like you’re there doing all the things – all the time – “richly scheduled” – but you’re not really present and connected with your body.
I mean, who has the time, right?!
Your attention may be focused on figuring something out or finally being done with something (like work or a dreaded task) – and then onto the next thing on the list of things to DO – or, if you’ve earned it, a bit of rest or pleasure might be granted.
How present are you in your actual body and “being-ness”?
Aside from a bursting bladder, nagging hunger or thirst, or perhaps chronic, annoying or unexpected symptoms or pain, there’s not much awareness given to the “felt-sense” that is the life-force of every cell and structure in your body.
For probably all my life, my mental mind has driven this ship called “Ev”.
As I shared in my last post, emotions and feelings were not something I allowed myself to experience much at all. It didn’t feel safe to feel. It felt too vulnerable.
As I adapted to avoiding my feelings and emotions (my heart/feminine aspects), I also dissociated from my body in many ways – so that I didn’t have to FEEL the intensity of the emotional energy being suppressed as it surged, tensed and/or found places to exist – trapped throughout my body…tension in the hips, jaw, neck, shoulders, gut…and hormonally “tense” through the thyroid, adrenals and ovaries…
Not knowing any better and disembodied – disconnected, these adaptations seemed to “work” for decades….until they didn’t.
Even in my teens and twenties as my mind and body struggled with body dysmorphia, weight fluctuations, “disordered eating”, overexercising and other coping behaviors…
…the chasm between WHO I REALLY WAS – which is held in every cell of my body – in my pure heart consciousness through expressed emotions and feelings – WIDENED – as my reliance on thinking and doing – my survival based mask of ego-protections – became more and more primary in my default operating system.
In consciousness healing terms,
I over-favored my Masculine Aspects (more ego-protective, mental, material, action-oriented and avoidant) …
while I suppressed my Feminine Aspects of feeling and flowing – BEING in my emotional body….versus constantly “doing”.
….the feminine discerns our true heart’s desires from insecure “wants” that come from lack, not-enoughness, comparison, trauma or culture…
….the feminine imbues a wisdom, knowing, faith and trust versus existing in protection, numbing, escaping or survival…
…the feminine allows the flow of creativity, insights, intuition and connection through the heart and body…
FROM THIS PLACE…a harmonious relationship with your masculine aspects translates your feminine – your true heart’s desires – into ALIGNED action THROUGH THE BODY.
Life becomes easier – more peaceful, content, clear..
Side note: Don’t get too caught up in the Masculine/Feminine identities either (which has nothing to do with gender btw).
This energetic harmony is not an ‘either-or’ or ‘one is better’. Both aspects NEED each other.
Think of it more of a dance between your masculine (thoughts & action) listening, believing and trusting the desires and guidance that come from your heart – the feminine – which only flows through the feelings of the heart and the sensations and energies THROUGH the body.
Heart – Body – Mind ⟁
This harmonious trinity is how you nurture your human BEing connection to pure consciousness > Spirit/Source/God/All-That-Is (whatever your belief system).
Here’s a short reflection exercise for you. Find a few moments and a quiet still place – maybe have pen and paper near to jot down what you experience:
First, based on what I shared above, can you start to identify and feel the difference between these two (Feminine/Masculine) aspects in yourself? Which is more dominant in you? How does this show up in your life? How does this serve you and the life you’ve created? How does it hinder or block you from experiencing more vitality, connection, fulfillment, joy and peace in your life?
Now let’s check in with your body…Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths to relax and come into your body. Without strain, inhale for 3 or 4 seconds, exhale for 5 to 7 seconds. Find an easy rhythm for you. Nothing forced or stressful. (If it feels like that, come back to this later when you have more nervous system capacity and receptivity.)
In this relaxed state, with your next few breaths, can you direct the reach of your breath to your back-body? Feel into this. Feel the back parts of your spine and ribs, the muscles, organs, the diaphragm, fascia, feel into the connective tissues, nerves and the stretch of your skin expanding. Can you sense a hum or pulse or breath within? What else do you notice?
You can stay with this or with your next few breaths focus on directing the breath to each side of the body. Next take the breath up to your head, then maybe down to your belly. How about down to your pelvis? Can you go all the way down to your feet?
Observe what you experience in this more embodied state. Withhold any judgement. Be curious. Is there mental chatter? A critical voice? Is you mind telling you that this isn’t working or worth your time? What’s that really about? Perhaps deeper insights are starting to come through? Flashes, words, colors, images. Do you feel any discomfort? Any emotions or sensations?
As you come into your body more wholly – at the cellular level and through the various structures that make you – YOU…
…I promise you’ll begin to build more of the capacity to FEEL more safety in connecting to yourself – and to experience the harmony you need to thrive in an uncertain world and in a well-aging body.

…while burying the heart – the pulse of life-force that FEELS and knows the YOU that truly creates from the heart and nurtures whole health and a whole life.
