Last year, I purchased the FasciaBlaster tool and posted about my experience here along with my top nutrition tips to support healthy fascia. I still use my FasciaBlaster a few times every week – it’s a recovery/self care staple, just like my foam roller – mostly because it feels really good. My kids even use it for aches and pains. Although I still have some cellulite :/, I’d say it’s improved thanks to the FasciaBlaster (not sponsored btw).
I’ve been looking at research on collagen peptides because there’s a lot of buzz about them for gut health, joint health, hair, skin and nails, etc…
With the bone broth trend and the Paleo line of Grassfed Beef/collagen protein powder from Designs for Health (find it in my estore), I was just curious about the actual research and human trials using collagen.
Scrolling through PUBMED, I found loads of solid research on wrinkles and collagen of course – given its prevalence in anti-aging skin care products – but I wondered if cellulite research was actually a thing too.
Turns out it is!
Here’s a recent paper from a randomized control trial using 2.5 grams of collagen peptides per day with over 100 women that were either overweight or normal weight with moderate cellulite. The results of the study demonstrated that the use of collagen peptides produced a measurable improvement in cellulite appearance over the 6 month trial (actually improvements were noted just 8 weeks in. SO COOL!!)!
If you want a reputable source of the exact same Verisol collagen peptides (used in the study) along with a blend of other supportive nutrients and botanicals, try this amazing HSN formula. It actually benefits much more than cellulite too including support and nourishment for all connective tissues (aka fascia), skin wrinkles, eyes, the GI tract, bones, joints, hair and nails.
I prefer the powder form vs capsules because it tastes really good and that helps me get more water in every day. (Hydration is crucial for healthy fascia and skin!)
This formula actually has a whopping 5 grams of Verisol collagen peptides per dose (double what was used in the study – PS – I half the dose to stretch it out so it’ll last 2 months instead of 1). It’s synergistically formulated with proven effective cellular compounds like vitamin C, biotin, glucosamine, glutamine, aloe and a little known botanical called Bamboo extract – which is a rich source of silica and has been shown to protect tissues from Advanced Glycation End products (aka AGE’s – aptly names because these nasty free radicals that are produced in the body cause cellular damage and literally age our skin, tissues and cells).
I’ve been using collagen peptides for about a month, so we’ll see how with this, some self tanner, continued fascia blasting, clean eating, exercise and hydration, how confidently I sport my shorts this summer! 🙂
